HH Maharaja Vir Singh Ju Deo of Orchha

The ASHT GADHI State was established by Dewan Rai Singh great grandson of Dewan Hardaul of Orccha, who was the son of His Highness Shri Sawai Mahendra Maharaja Vir Singh Ju Dev Bahadur of Orchha.

Dewan Hardaul was granted the Jagir of Eirach, Badoni  and Badagaon by his father. After his death, his son Dewan Vijay Singh became the Jagirdar of Badagaon. Dewan Vijay Singh had a son named Pratap Singh. When Dewan Vijay Singh passed away, his son Pratap Singh because the Jagirdar.

Dewan Pratap Singh (great great grandson of HH Shri Sawai Mahendra Maharaja Vir Singh Ju Deo Bahadur of Orccha) had six sons :

1. Rao Jaskaran  became the Jagirdar of Ladwari.

2. Bhagwan Singh became the Jagirdar of Digoda.

3. Rai Singh became the Jagirdar of Badagaon.

4. Udet Singh became the Maharaja of Orchha.

5. Pancham Singh became the Jagirdar of Tehroli.

6. Achal Singh became the Jagirdar of Lakhaipura.

Dewan Rai Singh of Badagaon had Eight sons. Badagaon Jagir was divided among them:

1.  Kari (Daatpura) was given to Fateh Singh.

2.  Pasari was given to Bhujbal Singh.

3.  Tehroli was given to Laxman Singh.

4.  Chirgaon was given to Mokam Singh.

5.  Dhurvai was given to Man Singh.

6.  Bijna was given to Samant Singh.

7.  Tori Fatehpur was given to the eldest son Hindu Singh (Hindupath Singh), who had acquired it by fighting with the Gosains.

8.  Banka Pahari was given to Ummed Singh.

These Jagirs originally formed part of the Orchha State. These Eight Jagirs became famous as the Asht Gadhi State.

Later, the Jagirdars of Kari, Pasari, and Tehroli died without heirs, and their territories were merged with nearby estates. Kari was merged with Tori Fatehpur, Pasari was incorporated in the Jhansi District and Tehroli was reverted to Orchha.

The remaining five continued to exist. The Jagir of Tori Fatehpur was given by Jagirdar Dewan Rai Singh to his eldest son Hindu Singh (Dewan Hindupath Singh). Thus, Tori Fatehpur remained the principal house among the Asht Gadhis.
